The International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS) Asia Pacific Coordination was established in 1954 to coordinate numerous tertiary student groups, movements, and federations in Asia and the Pacific. Since then, IMCS Asia Pacific has continued its purpose of forming tertiary students in collaboration with the disadvantaged to fulfill its core responsibility of creating a more just world. Currently, IMCS Asia Pacific is a regional coordinating body of tertiary student groups and federations in over 19 Asia Pacific countries.
Since the organization’s inception, IMCS Asia Pacific has taken a lead in raising awareness among the student community about the changing realities of Asia and the Pacific. Chaplains and Animators have played critical roles in this conscientisation journey. This comprises both pastoral workers and full-time workers. However, due to the rapidly changing reality, groups such as IMCS must prioritize our efforts to strengthen alternative forms of student leadership. Unfortunately, systematic capacity building of Chaplains and Animators at the regional level has been low throughout the last decade and during the pandemic covid-19, although some training have been included in current IMCS courses and shared online. At the national level, certain National Movements run capacity-building initiatives for Chaplains and Animators.
