International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women 25 November 2024

End Violence, Empower Women, Promote Gender Equity

Today, we stand united in the fight against violence and inequality. The elimination of violence against women is not only a matter of justice but also a fundamental human right. Women around the world continue to face violence, discrimination, and marginalization—issues that we, as youth, must address with urgency and action.

As Pope Francis has said, “Young people are called to be protagonists in the building of a more just and peaceful society.” The youth of today have the power, passion, and vision to lead the way in creating a world where women are empowered, violence is eliminated, and gender equity is a reality for all.

The Facts:

  • 1 in 3 women worldwide have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.
  • Over 37% of women in South-East Asia have experienced intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence.
  • 1 in 3 girls in South Asia are married before the age of 18, often leading to violence and inequality.
  • Violence against women costs countries up to 3.7% of their GDP—a major economic burden.

What You Can Do:

  • Raise Awareness: Share facts, stories, and resources to educate those around you.
  • Support Survivors: Advocate for policies that protect and support women who experience violence.
  • Get Involved: Join campaigns, volunteer, and support initiatives that empower women and promote gender equity.

Lead by Example: Challenge stereotypes, fight gender discrimination, and be a voice for change in your community.

Youth, Your Voice Matters! The change we seek begins with YOU. Stand up, speak out, and take action to build a world where every woman can live free from violence and inequality. Let’s work together for a future where all women are empowered, and gender equity is achieved for all.
