Each initiative and gathering has been a step forward in our journey towards creating a more inclusive, empowered, and spiritually connected community. Here’s a glimpse into the significant moments and milestones we’ve shared together:

A. Nurturing Student Movements in Nepal
We are thrilled to share the highlights of our recent three-day session themed ‘Movement Building and Strategic Planning,’ which took place from December 30th to January 1st at St. Xavier’s College in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Guided by the expertise of Marina D’ Costa, a distinguished leader from India, participants embarked on a journey of enriching knowledge and valuable insights. The sessions were meticulously crafted to empower attendees with practical tools and strategies.

Throughout the event, various sessions delved into critical topics, with a primary focus on cultivating and strategizing the growth of movements, particularly among students. One highlight was a session dedicated to cultivating global leadership qualities, emphasizing the traits essential for ideal leadership. Moreover, there was a spotlight on the pivotal role of empowering youth development in fostering sustainability within movements.

Participants actively engaged in crafting action plans and activities geared towards resource mobilization, fostering participation, and nurturing growth experiences. Central to our discussions was the overarching aim of cultivating a worldview aligned with the ethos of IMCS-Nepal. 

At the heart of this session was a concerted effort to inspire student involvement and initiatives in formulating their strategic plans and actions for advancing the movement’s goals.

We look forward to witnessing the ripple effects of this session as participants carry forward their newfound knowledge and passion for effecting positive change.

B. Project ‘Insignia’ Follow-up
In a follow-up session on March 12th and 13th, the ‘Insignia’ project embarked on its mission in the village of Gyalthum, Sindhupalchowk, Nepal. Spearheaded by Brothers Deepak and Aloysius, alongside two dedicated students from IMCS-Nepal, the endeavor aimed to make significant strides in empowering the women of this marginalized community.

The core of Project ‘Insignia’ revolves around the creation of eco-friendly cloth pads, a sustainable solution to address menstrual poverty prevalent in rural Nepal. By engaging with the women of Gyalthum, the project seeks to not only elevate their economic standing but also enhance their overall quality of life.

Furthermore, Project ‘Insignia’ is committed to fostering awareness among young girls regarding menstrual hygiene—an often overlooked aspect crucial for their health and well-being.

With a strong emphasis on environmental conservation and sustainability, the project utilizes eco-friendly, reusable products. By doing so, it not only addresses the immediate needs of women but also contributes to a greener, more sustainable future for all.

C. Session on ‘Good Touch/Bad Touch and Sexual Harassment’
A comprehensive session addressing the critical topics of good touch/bad touch and sexual harassment took place on January 12th and 13th in Gyalthum, Sindhupalchowk. Ms. Rejina Dharti Ghale and Mr. Sujan Ghale served as the facilitators for the session, engaging the community members in enlightening discussions.

The primary aim of the session was to cultivate awareness among children and women in Gyalthum regarding good touch/bad touch dynamics and sexual harassment. Through interactive sessions, group discussions, and informative video presentations, participants were equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate these sensitive issues.

Key objectives of the session included:

– Providing insights into recognizing and understanding the distinctions between good touch and bad touch.

– Educating attendees on the various forms of sexual harassment, including vocal, visual, and physical.

– Empowering individuals to discern between appropriate and inappropriate physical contact.

– Highlighting preventive measures to mitigate instances of good touch/bad touch and sexual harassment.

– Enhancing awareness of legal provisions pertaining to sexual harassment within the context of Nepal.

By addressing these critical topics in an inclusive and interactive manner, the session aimed to foster a safer and more informed community environment in Gyalthum.

D. Lenten Walk 
On the serene morning of March 24, 2024, amidst the verdant landscapes of Nepal, the Lenten Walk unfolded, an annual tradition cherished by the IMCS-Nepal family. Embarking on their spiritual pilgrimage, they traversed the winding paths towards the majestic Nagarjun Hill, its peak soaring to an elevation of 2095 meters. Beyond merely conquering physical terrain, this journey symbolized a profound connection between the participants’ spiritual and natural well-being.

Central to the Lenten Walk was the timeless ritual of the ‘Way of the Cross’, a poignant reenactment of Jesus Christ’s journey to Calvary. Each step resonated with contemplation, as participants immersed themselves in the solemnity of the occasion. As they treaded the path, they sought not only to emulate Christ’s sacrifice but also to discern God’s presence woven intricately into the fabric of the natural world surrounding them.

Prior to setting forth, Chaplain Fr. Jiju tenderly guided the assembled pilgrims, imparting wisdom and inspiration for the journey ahead. With hearts attuned to the divine, they commenced their trek, pausing at each station to reflect upon the profound significance of Christ’s passion and resurrection. Each prayerful step brought them closer to their destination, where they would culminate their spiritual odyssey with a solemn mass atop the hill.

Upon reaching the summit, the pilgrims gathered in communion to partake in the Eucharistic celebration, their souls uplifted by the collective reverence. Amidst the tranquil ambiance, they broke bread together, savoring the simple yet profound act of sharing homemade food, a testament to the bonds of fellowship and solidarity that united them.

As the day unfolded, amidst shared meals and heartfelt conversations, the Lenten Walk transcended mere physical exertion, evolving into a transformative experience of faith and fellowship. Each participant carried with them not only memories of the arduous trek but also a renewed sense of spiritual vigor, fortified by the bonds forged in prayer and shared reflection.

In the echoes of their footsteps lingering upon the hallowed trails, the essence of the Lenten Walk endured—a testament to the enduring power of faith to unite hearts and illuminate the path towards redemption and renewal. 

E. Musical Meditation Program
25 January 2024, in a bustling urban enclave, nestled amidst the chaos of modernity, the Centre for Society and Religion in Maradana emerged as an oasis of serenity, where souls sought solace and enlightenment. It was here, amid the tranquil ambience of the center, that a transformative musical meditation program unfolded, weaving a tapestry of harmony and introspection.

Under the guidance of the venerable Rev. Fr. Randil Fernando (OMI), whose wisdom and compassion served as guiding beacons for the seekers of truth, a total of 85 participants embarked on a profound journey of self-discovery. With his gentle yet commanding presence, Fr. Randil led the assembly through the labyrinth of their minds, urging them to delve deep into the recesses of their souls.

As the strains of sacred melodies filled the air, echoing softly against the walls of the center, students were invited to quiet the clamor of their thoughts and attune their spirits to the rhythm of existence. Each note, each chord, became a vessel carrying them closer to a profound understanding of the value of life in a world gripped by the relentless pace of modernity.

Through moments of stillness and reflection, amidst the harmonious interplay of melody and silence, participants were encouraged to contemplate the essence of their being. They pondered the fleeting nature of time, the fragility of human existence, and the intrinsic worth inherent in every breath.

In the hushed sanctuary of the center, far removed from the distractions of the outside world, students found sanctuary in the sanctuary of their own hearts. They unearthed hidden reservoirs of resilience and grace, discovering that amidst the tumult of life, there exists a profound serenity that transcends the temporal.

As the program drew to a close, and the final strains of music faded into the ether, a sense of peace descended upon the gathering. Reverence filled the air, mingling with gratitude for the transformative experience they had shared.

With hearts aglow and spirits uplifted, participants departed the Centre for Society and Religion, carrying with them the profound insights gleaned during their musical meditation journey. For in that sacred space, under the benevolent guidance of Fr. Randil, they had discovered not only the value of life, but also the boundless depths of the human spirit.

F. Three Unit Workshop 
In an unprecedented fusion of spirituality and contemporary leadership, a transformative workshop unfolded within the serene embrace of St. Vincent’s Home Youth Encounter Centre, Maggona. Against the backdrop of modern-day challenges and complexities, this unique gathering brought together aspiring leaders from three prestigious universities – J’pura, Ruhuna, and Sabaragamuwa – under the visionary guidance of Rev. Fr. Shanil Jayawardene OMI.

As the program manager, Fr. Shanil embarked on a profound exploration of spirituality in the context of modern-day leadership challenges. Recognizing the need for a holistic approach to leadership development, the workshop sought to bridge the gap between traditional wisdom and contemporary realities, empowering participants to navigate the complexities of the modern world with clarity and compassion.

Over the course of two immersive days, on the 10th and 11th of February 2024, participants engaged in a dynamic exchange of ideas and perspectives, delving into the intersection of spirituality, ethics, and effective leadership. Through a series of interactive sessions, Fr. Shanil challenged conventional notions of leadership, urging participants to cultivate a deeper understanding of themselves and their role in society.

Drawing upon timeless spiritual principles and practical insights, the workshop explored a range of pressing issues facing modern-day leaders, from ethical decision-making and inclusive governance to fostering resilience and fostering a culture of empathy and collaboration. Fr. Shanil’s compassionate guidance served as a beacon of inspiration, encouraging participants to tap into their inner wisdom and lead with authenticity and integrity.

Amidst the bustling energy of Maggona, participants found sanctuary in the tranquil surroundings of St. Vincent’s Home, where they were invited to reflect on their personal values, beliefs, and aspirations. Through contemplative practices and introspective exercises, they discovered the power of mindfulness and self-awareness in navigating the complexities of leadership in a rapidly changing world.

As the workshop drew to a close, participants emerged with a renewed sense of purpose and clarity, ready to embark on their respective leadership journeys with confidence and conviction. In the spirit of camaraderie and solidarity, they pledged to uphold the principles of compassion, integrity, and service in their endeavors to effect positive change in their communities and beyond.

In the wake of their transformative experience at St. Vincent’s Home, participants departed with a sense of optimism and determination, empowered by the knowledge that spirituality remains a potent force for leadership in the modern age. For in embracing the timeless wisdom of the past, they had discovered a pathway to navigating the complexities of the present and shaping a more just, compassionate, and inclusive future for all.

G. Meet the Bishop 
In a momentous gathering marked by solemnity and purpose, a pivotal meeting convened within the hallowed halls of the Bishop’s House in Galle. Under the esteemed guidance of His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Raymond Wickramasinghe, the venerable Bishop of Galle and Chairman of the Commission for Education, Catechetics, and Bible Apostolate, seven distinguished participants assembled to deliberate upon the future trajectory of a national movement of profound significance. The date, etched in the annals of history, stood as a beacon of promise and potential: the 13th of February 2024.

Amidst the dignified ambiance of the Bishop’s House, with its timeless architecture and reverential atmosphere, His Lordship set the stage for an earnest discourse aimed at charting the course for the movement’s advancement. As the appointed shepherd of the faithful, Dr. Raymond Wickramasinghe’s wisdom and leadership imbued the proceedings with a sense of gravitas and reverence, guiding the participants with a steady hand and a compassionate heart.

The seven participants, representing a diverse array of backgrounds and perspectives, brought forth their collective wisdom and insights to the table, each contributing to the tapestry of dialogue and deliberation. Against the backdrop of societal challenges and evolving paradigms, they embarked upon a journey of introspection and exploration, seeking to discern the most efficacious pathways forward for the national movement.

Throughout the course of the meeting, a multiplicity of themes and topics were broached, ranging from strategic planning and organizational development to outreach initiatives and community engagement. Dr. Raymond Wickramasinghe’s astute stewardship ensured that each point of discussion was met with thoughtful consideration and deliberate action, fostering an atmosphere of collaboration and consensus-building among the participants.

As the hours waned and the evening shadows lengthened, the collective resolve of the gathering remained unwavering, fueled by a shared commitment to the ideals and aspirations of the national movement. In the crucible of discourse and debate, seeds of innovation and transformation were sown, germinating into a vision of renewal and rejuvenation for the movement’s future endeavors.

As the meeting drew to a close, a palpable sense of optimism pervaded the Bishop’s House, buoyed by the knowledge that the collective efforts of the participants had laid a sturdy foundation for the movement’s continued growth and progress. With gratitude in their hearts and determination in their spirits, they departed from the hallowed confines of the Bishop’s House, emboldened by the knowledge that their collaborative efforts had set the stage for a brighter, more promising future for all who would be touched by the national movement’s noble mission./

H. ක ොක ොස්මකේ ගී දැහැන
In a splendid display of devotion and cultural reverence, the Pasam Program unfolded its enchanting spectacle within the sacred confines of St. Anthony’s Church in Kollupitiya. This reverential event, which took place on the 9th of March, bore witness to a profound resurgence of Catholic culture and traditions, as manifested through the soul-stirring melodies of Pasam singing presented by students.

The air was alive with anticipation as the faithful congregated, eager to partake in this spiritual journey of music and prayer. With hearts uplifted and voices attuned to the celestial harmonies, the students poured forth their Pasam singing, each note resonating with a fervent desire to honor and uphold the sacred heritage of their Catholic faith.

Amidst the resplendent ambiance of St. Anthony’s Church, where the flickering candles cast a gentle glow upon the assembled congregation, the Pasam Program unfolded as a testament to the enduring vitality of Catholic traditions. Led by the guiding presence of Rt. Rev. Dr. Raymond Wickramasinghe, the esteemed Bishop of Galle and Chairman of the Commission for Education, Catechetics, and Bible Apostolate, the event radiated with a palpable sense of spiritual grace and divine blessing.

As the Pasam singing echoed through the hallowed halls of the church, it served as a poignant reminder of the rich tapestry of Catholic heritage, woven with threads of faith, devotion, and cultural resonance. The students, with their unwavering commitment and evinced interest in preserving these cherished traditions, became beacons of inspiration for all who bore witness to their heartfelt performances.

Gathered in prayerful reverence, a congregation of 200 participants immersed themselves in the transcendent beauty of the Pasam Program, each soul touched by the ineffable grace of the moment. Under the benevolent gaze of Bishop Raymond Wickramasinghe, the event blossomed into a sacred offering of praise and thanksgiving, a testament to the enduring legacy of Catholic faith and devotion.

As the final strains of Pasam singing faded into the ether, a profound sense of serenity descended upon the gathered assembly, hearts united in a chorus of gratitude and reverence. In that sacred space, amidst the flickering candlelight and incense-laden air, the Pasam Program stood as a luminous beacon of faith and tradition, igniting the flames of devotion within the hearts of all who bore witness to its divine splendor.

I. National Youth Day 2024
In a momentous convergence of faith, youth empowerment, and environmental stewardship, the Bangladesh Catholic Students’ Movement (BCSM) embarked on a transformative journey during the National Youth Day 2024, held within the verdant embrace of Sylhet Diocese from the 24th to the 27th of February. Against the backdrop of lush landscapes and vibrant cultural traditions, the BCSM joined hands with fellow youth advocates to celebrate the theme of the event: “Rejoice in Hope”.

At the heart of the National Youth Day festivities stood the symbolic Environmental Stall, a testament to the BCSM’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and ecological consciousness. This visionary initiative, inaugurated with great pomp and reverence, bore witness to the collaborative efforts of the BCSM members and esteemed dignitaries including Most Rev. Kevin Randall, the Apostolic Nuncio to Bangladesh, Most Rev. Archbishop Lawrence Subrata Hawlader, CSC, Most Rev. Bishop Gervas Rozario, D.D., Most Rev. Bishop Shorot Francis Gomes, and Fr. Bikash James Rebeiro, CSC.

Under the theme of “Youth Led Green Globalization,” the Environmental Stall served as a beacon of inspiration and education, inviting participants to embark on a journey of environmental awareness and activism. Constructed with ingenuity and care, the stall featured an array of captivating exhibits and interactive elements, each designed to ignite a sense of responsibility and reverence for the natural world.

One of the hallmark features of the stall was its utilization of recycled and repurposed materials, a poignant reminder of the transformative power of sustainability. BCSM members, with their creative ingenuity and passion for environmental preservation, breathed new life into non-biodegradable substances, crafting educational displays and awareness campaigns that captivated the imagination of all who beheld them.

From innovative art installations to thought-provoking informational panels, the Environmental Stall served as a nexus of learning and inspiration, encouraging participants to reflect on their role as stewards of the Earth and agents of positive change. Through engaging workshops, lively discussions, and hands-on activities, the BCSM members shared their knowledge and passion for environmental conservation, empowering others to join the noble cause.

As the sun set on the final day of the National Youth Day festivities, a spirit of hope and possibility permeated the air, buoyed by the collective efforts of all who had contributed to the success of the event. The Environmental Stall, with its message of youth-led environmentalism and global solidarity, stood as a shining example of the transformative power of faith, community, and environmental stewardship.

As participants departed from the hallowed grounds of Sylhet Diocese, they carried with them not only memories of a joyous celebration but also a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to safeguarding the planet for future generations. For in coming together to rejoice in hope, the BCSM and their fellow advocates had sown the seeds of a brighter, greener future for all.

J. Christian Leadership and Capacity Building Training
Bangladesh Catholic Students’ Movement (BCSM) organized “Christian Leadership and Capacity Building Training-2024” in collaboration with Caritas Development Institute (CDI), Dhaka along with 27 participants from 7 dioceses. The training was held from March 14 to March 18, 2024, at Caritas Development Institute (CDI), Malibagh, Dhaka.

National Chaplain of BCSM Fr. Bikash James Rebeiro, CSC, offered the opening mass; the opening ceremony was attended by President Ms. Pauline Shrabani Baroi; Dr. Benedict Alo D’ Rozario, President, Caritas Asia; Br. Leo James Pereira, CSC, Principal, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School and College; Fr. Bikash James Rebeiro, CSC, National Chaplain, BCSM, Sr. Chompa Adline Rozario, MPDA, Office Secretary, Episcopal Commission for Youth and Mrs. Prova Lucy Rozario, Course Coordinator from CDI. Several instructors provided sessions and facilitated group activities in this five-day training.

• Mrs. Prova Lucy Rozario delivered sessions on “Leadership Concepts and Importance of Leadership, Servant Leadership”, and “Planning and Decision-Making Style”. 
• Sessions on “Leadership Behavior, Innovative Thinking, Motivation, and Influence Skill” and “Program organizing, minutes and report writing” were delivered by Mrs. Samiron Orpa Kuzur, Sr. Faculty member, CDI. Mrs. Khurshida Aktar Jahan, Sr. faculty member, CDI delivered a session on “Advance Communication and Team Building”. 
• Adviser of the National Executive Committee as well as the Coordinator Training (Marketing) of CDI, Mr. Chayon Hubert Rebeiro shared a session on “Career Development: Doubts, Directions and Answers”. “Climate Action in Bangladesh” was discussed by Fr. Liton Hubert Gomes, Lecturer, Notre Dame College, Dhaka. 
• “Role of BCSM and leadership in the Church activities” was discussed by Mr. Swopnil Louis Cruze, former president of BCSM. “Challenges and Overcoming Strategies for Developing Youth Leadership in Church activities” was discussed by Mr. Patrick Drishya Purification, former president of BCSM. 
• “Methodology of BCSM” was discussed by Ms. Pauline Shrabani Baroi, President and Mr. Arpon Adrian Gomes, General Secretary of BCSM. Session on “International Leadership through BCSM” was delivered by Publication Secretary of BCSM, Mr. Aditya John Rodriguez and Organizing Secretary, Mr. Jaseng Justin Nokrek. 
• His Excellency Archbishop Bejoy N D’Cruze, OMI, Archbishop of Dhaka, discussed the theme of the training “For even the Son of Man did not come to serve but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many” – MARK 10:45. A round table discussion was arranged during the training for the members of BCSM to have more knowledge and insights from the experienced seniors of BCSM. 
• The discussion was attended by Mr. William Brian D’ Rozario, Asst. Professor, Notre Dame College, Dhaka and 1 st President of BCSM; Mr. Sebastian Rozario, Executive Director, Caritas Bangladesh and the 1 st Secretary of BCSM; Mr. Shishir Angelo Rozario, Director, CORR the Jute Works; Mr. Jewel Marak, Former General Secretary, BCSM; Mr. Sandy Francis Peris, Former President, BCSM; Mr. Suman Falia, Former Treasurer, BCSM; Mr. Patrick Drishya Purification, Former President, BCSM Mr. Swopnil Louis Cruze, Former President, BCSM; Fr. Bikash James Rebeiro, CSC, National Chaplain, BCSM and Fr. Proloy Cruze, Chaplain, Dhaka Archdiocesan BCSM. In addition to the modules already mentioned, the training also focused on the importance of spiritual growth and development of the leaders of BCSM. Participants were encouraged to deepen their relationship with God through devotion, way of Cross, prayer, and study sessions.

The “Christian Leadership and Capacity Building Training-2024” was a comprehensive program designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective leadership in the Christian community. Throughout the duration of the training, various activities such as study sessions, extempore speeches, and group activities were meticulously organized to facilitate learning and skill development.

In the culminating Closing Ceremony, esteemed dignitaries graced the event, underscoring its significance within the Christian community. His Excellency Archbishop Bejoy N D’Cruze, OMI, the Archbishop of Dhaka, alongside Mr. Theophil Nokrek, Director of CDI, National Chaplain Fr. Bikash James Rebeiro, CSC, and Mrs. Prova Lucy Rozario of CDI, were among the distinguished guests. Additionally, the presence of Ms. Pauline Shrabani Baroi, President of BCSM, added to the honor of the occasion.

Central to the spiritual aspect of the training was the celebration of Holy Mass, a sacred ritual led by Fr. Proloy Cruze, Chaplain of Dhaka Archdiocesan BCSM. His Excellency Archbishop Bejoy N D’Cruze also officiated the Closing Mass, infusing the ceremony with solemnity and reverence.

The conclusion of the training saw a thoughtful evaluation by the participants, highlighting the positive impact it had on their personal and professional development. Many expressed gratitude for the newfound insights and skills acquired, affirming their readiness to apply them in their leadership roles. Furthermore, participants valued the opportunity to network and collaborate with other Christian leaders from diverse backgrounds across Bangladesh, recognizing the importance of mutual learning and support within the Christian community.

As the training drew to a close, certificates were distributed to acknowledge the participants’ dedication and achievements. Felicitations were extended to all those involved in organizing and facilitating the program, affirming their commitment to nurturing Christian leadership and fostering a spirit of collaboration and unity within the community
