Joshua John Sundararaj, AICUF, India: The 31st National Council of All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF) was organized from 22nd to 25th August 2019 at AICUF House, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India on the Theme “Safeguard Indian Constitution and our Democracy”
The First Session of the Council handled by Dr. Gladson Xavier emphasized the factors trying to demolish the democracy. The following sessions of the day were taken over by Rev. Fr. Emmanuel SJ, who Explained the Constitution of AICUF and the negative factors & impacts of the newly implemented Educational Policy by the central government.
Students were instructed to discuss the regional challenges that they are facing and requested to come up with emerging ideas and solutions. Participants representing their states actively presented their State reports and responded to the queries that were raised.
The First Session of the 2nd day was handled by Dr. Bernardi Samy brought out the history of AICUF and enunciated the special occasions in the history of AICUF.
Mr. John Shanthkumar, IMCS Asia-Pacific Lay Chaplain who took over the following session explained the ideology of IMCS and its connection with AICUF.
The Final Session of the day was Panel Discussion on Dalit and Women Commission headed by Prof. Julia, Prof. Lenin.
John Pankaj Kujur and Jenny Toppo from Jharkhand brought out the struggles and hardships of the tribal community and suggested the ways that how aicufers should respond and react accordingly. The participants showcased their traditions, regional cultures and dances in the thematic night at the end of the day.
On the final day of the National Council, The students drafted the declaration on the given topics. The National Convener, National Co-Convener and Commission Conveners were elected and the new National Team Took charge for the upcoming year.
