To ensure a holistic preparation, IMCS Asia Pacific, alongside its national members, organized a series of dynamic events and activities aimed at preparing students for these global milestones. These initiatives not only fostered a stronger sense of unity but also empowered our student leaders to reflect on their roles in shaping a just, inclusive, and peaceful world.
Transformative Reflection on Grassroots Realities of Youths: An Interaction and Sharing Session with the Youths of West Bengal Dates: August 31 & September 2 Organized by: IMCS Pax Romana Asia Pacific in Collaboration with IMCS Nepal
Through webinars, workshops, and local projects, students across the Asia Pacific region were able to reflect on the themes of global solidarity and faith, preparing them both spiritually and intellectually for the larger discussions at the global events and in the presence of the Pope.
As the International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS) Pax Romana Asia Pacific anticipates the blissful encounter with His Holiness Pope Francis on September 20th, we have been actively engaging with our national movements to bring forth the diverse voices of youths across the Asia Pacific region. Our aim is to understand their daily lives, needs, challenges, and strategic aspirations. This particular initiative focuses on the youths of West Bengal, India, whose voices we intend to amplify during our private audience with His Holiness. This interaction is expected to enrich our communal understanding of the diverse realities faced by these youths.
To understand the realities of youth from West Bengal.
To initiate a connection and conversation with the youths.
To explore and expand the networking of youths to the regional and global teams.
The engagement began with a visit to St. Xavier’s College in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, where 49 eager students participated. The session started with an ice-breaking activity followed by a presentation from Suman Ghale, who shared the historical significance of IMCS Pax Romana and the importance of the upcoming Papal Audience. Boni Rani Ghale and Pasang Tamang from IMCS Nepal then localized the discussion, highlighting grassroots activities. The students identified AICUF as a faith-based movement promoting social justice, women empowerment, and gender balance. They noted challenges such as unequal opportunities, low self-esteem, lack of resources, language barriers, family pressures, and financial instability. They expressed the need for guidance, platforms, and programs to better engage with global issues.
The session at St. Joseph’s College, Darjeeling, explored further collaboration between local and international teams. Emphasizing the digital globalization of AICUF’s activities, participants discussed how national units can foster partnerships to build a peaceful, just, inclusive, and sustainable world.
This transformative interaction has provided valuable insights and voices from the youth of West Bengal, which will be carried to the Papal Private Audience with His Holiness Pope Francis. Their stories and aspirations will be amplified on this significant platform, enriching the communal understanding and global movement towards a more inclusive future.
