The Catholica Peace Forum 2024 event on 19 september in Rome concluded with the adoption of the Rome Appeal for Peace, a significant declaration that encapsulates the shared values and commitments of the participants. Held at the Institute of St. Anselm in Rome, the event gathered Catholic students, youth leaders, and peace advocates from around the world for a day of inspiring dialogue and action. The program began with warm greetings and an opening session that included prayers and welcome remarks, setting a reflective tone for the day’s discussions.
Keynote speeches from Kevin Ahern and Martha Ines Romero during the first session addressed the global challenges faced by Catholic youths and emphasized the need for a collective response. After a networking lunch, the focus shifted to advocacy for peace, justice, and care for creation, with powerful talks by Budi Tjahjono and Marcel C. Akpovo. Regional group discussions provided an opportunity for participants to share perspectives and brainstorm solutions specific to their areas.
The afternoon sessions highlighted the role of youth in a synodal church and the upcoming World Youth Day 2027. Presentations by Sr. Natalie Becquart and Fr. Pietro Ju Yul YANG energized the participants for future engagements. The event culminated in the adoption of the ‘2024 Rome Appeal for Peace’, a comprehensive document reflecting the collective commitment to peace, justice, and environmental stewardship.
The closing session included the presentation and adoption of the Rome Appeal for Peace, followed by a solemn Centennial Mass. This ceremony included the offering of the ‘2024 Rome Appeal for Peace’, a Catholic Nonviolence Vow, and prayers for the Season of Creation.
